Hello,
I wanted to send out two short updates for your information and background:
1.
Secretary Clinton will be giving a speech in Orlando, FL at 2 pm focused on creating an inclusive economy for persons with disabilities. As you are aware, NACDD is an non-partisan organization, but given the very specific focus of the
speech on our community, I wanted to make people aware that it is occurring today. More information is available at
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/09/20/clinton-to-call-for-better-workplaces-for-disabled-people/, and I believe it will be streamed through different websites including those affiliated with the campaign.
2.
The final report from the Advisory Committee on Increasing Competitive Integrated Employment for Individuals with Disabilities was submitted on September 15, 2016
to the Secretary of Labor and Congress. It is available at
https://www.dol.gov/odep/topics/pdf/ACICIEID_Final_Report_9-8-16.pdf.
The Final Report summarizes the findings, conclusions, and recommendations of the Committee on ways to increase competitive employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual
or developmental disabilities or other individuals with significant disabilities as well as the use and oversight of the certificate program as carried out under section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. NACDD will be looking at the recommendations,
and seeing how we can work with coalition partners, Congress and the Administration to implement them.
