The Idaho Council Seeks a Cultural Broker:

The Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities is federally mandated to include in its activities and initiatives people within the developmental disabilities population in Idaho otherwise identified as a "targeted disparity." One group statistically shown to be at greater risk are Spanish-speaking adults and parents of children with disabilities whose primary language is Spanish. The Subgrantee must provide service and support in a manner that is responsive to the beliefs, interpersonal styles, attitudes, language, and behaviors of individuals in this group in a manner that has the greatest likelihood of ensuring their maximum participation in the program involved. The Subgrantee must have proven expertise working within this sub-population, be fluently bilingual, be highly experienced in working within the complex developmental disabilities system within Idaho, and have an established link to community members who are either bi-lingual or only speak Spanish.

The Subgrantee shall: broker relationships with Spanish-speaking individuals and families statewide, but especially within Canyon County, rural Ada County and Owyhee Counties; be familiar with and facilitate Core Gift Assessment and develop day-long training sessions in Spanish to individuals and families; assist in the statewide recruitment of individuals interested in participating; include statewide surveys of Spanish-speaking individuals and families, providing translation of survey materials and results, including interpretation of general feelings of groups and individuals surveyed; attend regular 1, 2 and 3-day meetings as needed; provide support and education to Council staff and partners about cultural sensitivity and how to encourage the recruitment of Spanish-speaking adults and their families to participate in Council projects; and provide translation of or review translated materials from English to Spanish.

Application Due Date: January 20, 2017, 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.
