Congrats, Carol and all of New Hampshire. I posted this on our Partners in Policymaking FB page as a reminder of the power of grassroots advocacy and leadership. Truly inspirational, and public policy at its best!

Subject: DD Councils NH Governor Signs Legislation Abolishing Sub-Minimum Wage for People with Disabilities
Good afternoon,
I wanted to share with everyone that today New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan signed into law SB 47, which repeals statutory authority to pay people less than minimum wage on the basis of disability.
This is a You Tube video of the vote in the House:

For those of you who may not be aware, Governor Hassan is the mother of a young man who has cerebral palsy. She is the graduate of our family leadership program. I am attaching a photo someone took with their phone of her signing the bill. Many of the people surrounding her are current and former Council members and staff and their families. The man with the tie to her right is the prime sponsor Senator Andy Hosmer. He owns a car dealership and the two men in front are his longtime employees, who have developmental disabilities. He frequently talked about his personal experience as an employer at the public hearings and today. The Governor also spoke of her experiences as a parent, recalling her son being lifted into a van for his first day of school in his community, and how we are stronger and more successful as a state when we include everyone.
