Hello all!

I wanted to share two opportunities for emerging leaders with disabilities that may be of interest to you and your network.

First, the 2022 AAPD Summer Internship Program application<http://www.aapd.com/internship> is due this Wednesday, October 20 at 5:00pm ET. The Summer Internship Program places college students, graduate students, law students, and recent graduates (up to 5 years out) with all types of disabilities in paid summer internships with Congressional offices, federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and for-profit companies within the Washington, DC area. In 2022, AAPD will offer a hybrid internship program with some interns joining remotely from across the country in addition to interns based in DC. It’s a wonderful opportunity for interns to advance their career goals, build their leadership and advocacy skills, and be a part of a supportive cohort and community. AAPD provides interns with a living stipend and transportation to and from DC, and fully accessible housing (if in-person) or a technology budget (if remote). The second opportunity is the 2022 AAPD Paul G. Hearne Emerging Leader Award<https://www.aapd.com/aapd-paul-g-hearne-leadership-awards/> that is due next Wednesday, October 27 at 5:00pm ET. AAPD seeks to recognize emerging leaders or groups with disabilities who exemplify leadership, advocacy, and dedication to the broader cross-disability community. Two (2) individuals or groups will each receive $7,500 to further a new or existing initiative that increases opportunities for people with disabilities and $2,500 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the disability community. The recipients of the 2022 AAPD Paul G. Hearne Emerging Leader Awards will be honored among national disability leaders and activists at the 2022 AAPD Leadership Awards Gala on March 9, 2022. AAPD hosted a Zoom webinar walking through the application process and two past Hearne Awardees shared their experiences and tips.
