The Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs' (AMCHP) State Public Health Autism Resource Center (SPHARC)<http://www.amchp.org/programsandtopics/CYSHCN/projects/spharc/Pages/default.aspx> is excited to host a free virtual workshop, The Black Side of Autism, from 2:00-3:00pm EDT on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

Maria Davis-Pierre, President & CEO of Autism in Black<https://www.autisminblack.org/>, will lead this informative and engaging workshop that looks at autism from a cultural perspective and addresses stigma around autism within the Black community. Workshop participants will:

  *   Learn the importance of cultural competence and the important role it plays in the Black disability community
  *   Gain knowledge on how your own biases and unknown ableist views may affect your work
  *   Learn how to have culturally responsible discussions with parents and educators
Title V MCH & CYSHCN leaders, autistic individuals and their families, students and peer mentors, public health professionals, and others wanting to learn more about supporting and accepting autistic individuals are encouraged to participate.
