Subject: The Notre Dame SPARC Project
National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities,
My name is Chase and I am a research assistant for the University of Notre Dame Center for Children and Families. We are contacting you because of the work your organization does with families and children with intellectual or developmental disabilities. We are offering a virtual program through our center that may be of interest to the families you serve and hope that you will be willing to share information about the program with them. We would really appreciate your help in disseminating the information about the project throughout your network.
Our program is called Supporting Parent-Adolescent Relationships and Communication (SPARC, for short). We know that parents and typically developing siblings of kids with disabilities face additional stress and conflict, but there are very few research-based programs to support them. With that in mind, the SPARC program was developed to help parents and typically developing siblings improve communication and increase conflict resolution, which can reduce stress and strengthen relationships in the whole family.
We are looking for families who have at least one child with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) of any age and one child without a disability who is between the ages of 10 and 18. Families participate by answering survey questions online, doing activities as a family via video conferencing with our team, and receive research-based information to review on their own. Plus. families can earn up to $370 over the course of a year for being involved.
I will attach a flier below with more information, which also has a link that families can use to sign up. Please feel free to share this opportunity with families you know who may be able to participate.
Let me know if you have any questions.
