Disabled people of all ages living in group homes, psychiatric institutions, skilled nursing facilities and other facilities are at risk of not having the chance to vote this year! They are isolated because of COVID, many facilities that usually serve polling places will not this year, and visitation restrictions mean family and friends are less likely to be able to help with ballots or drop them off. Poor people and Black and Brown people are the most at risk of not being able to vote.
Let's make sure our folks have a chance to vote! We'll talk about a lot of concrete ways you can get involved.
We are also going to talk about what happens AFTER the election. With concerns about voter suppression and mail-in ballots, how do we ensure that all votes are counted? What specifically can disabled people do? Let's start an important brainstorm on how our community can contribute to this moment.

Background:

The Organizing Workgroup of the National Disability Leadership Alliance hosts these calls the third Tuesday of every month as a resource for disability organizers, in an effort toward building the organizing capacity of the disability community across the country. They generally follow the format of a Welcome followed by 2-3 experts in a given area speaking for a few minutes on their experiences, advice and challenges. The calls include a 20-30 minute question and answer period.
