Webinar Description:

  *   Explore the power of the disability vote
     *   31.7% of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities voted in 2016 compared to 61.4% of all Americas
     *   This year 35 million eligible voters are people with disabilities
  *   Understand how the COVID 19 Emergency will impact voting
  *   Get connected to tools that help empower persons with disabilities and their families

Presenters:
[Headshot of Rylin Rodgers]Rylin Rodgers is the Director of Public Policy at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities where she works on federal policy and legislative issues that affect people with developmental disabilities and their families. Prior to working at AUCD, Rylin served as the Training Director and Family Leadership Coordinator for the Riley Child Development Center (Indiana's LEND), and was a founding board member of Family Voices Indiana. Both as a parent and as a professional, Rylin has extensive expertise on topics including special education regulations, public and private health care financing and family/professional partnerships. Her personal and professional experiences combine to provide a unique perspective on the impact of policy and of systems issues on the ""end users.""
[Headshot of Liz Weintruab]Liz Weintruab has a long history of leadership in self-advocacy, and has held many board and advisory positions at state and national organizations. She is a full time member of the AUCD's policy team and also the host of Tuesdays With Liz: Disability Policy For All, where she attempts to make polices in accessible language so policy is accessible to all. In the Spring of 2018, Liz served as a Fellow for Senator Casey of Pennsylvania, working in his DC Office where she helped lead the way on disability policy by helping the Senator hold the administration accountable for disability stakeholder input into key programs; calling attention to the need for accessible supports and services for students and employees with disabilities on college campuses who have been sexually assaulted, which resulted in a S.2530; and helped organize a first of its kind Pennsylvania Disability Employment Summit with over 250 participants.
[Headshot of Lauren Blachowiack]Lauren Blachowiak, MEd, is the 2020-2021 Disability Policy Fellow where she works on federal policy and legislative issues that impact people with disabilities and their families. Prior to joining AUCD, Lauren taught at an inclusive elementary school for children with hearing loss in Washington, D.C. She received her BA in Writing Seminars from Johns Hopkins University and her MEd in Early Childhood Special Education from Vanderbilt University. While working towards her Masters, Lauren served as a Susan Gray Teaching Fellow at the research-oriented school on Vanderbilt's campus and developed research on a sibling-mediated language intervention for young children with Down syndrome. Through both her own experience as a sibling to a sister with Down syndrome and as a professional, Lauren is dedicated to advancing policies that promote equity, accessibility, and inclusivity for people with disabilities and their families. all.
