March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Each March, the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CbIuAY4UwPiF2Xv11k_iq1PXPOBn8DWlDLJvhN-1W0-Ti20fvNxIN2Uh5T2H0cmbwjHCKYqYoRUtHHpXQCqaNJsncxU1cSkijton8boSDu2KiewDXvjHObIrcy18BpLYLA1AEG8p3Z8=&c=DkpGzM22ZJtlvVmgbwRGB-3onI8YEuxupyUyfpvL1pthCwwnry8VRQ==&ch=X553AEF-nAO5oe6dknYomZP5S9_xLJpOEcYkYtueGFrg1OmumztzcA==>), partners with Association for University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CbIuAY4UwPiF2Xv11k_iq1PXPOBn8DWlDLJvhN-1W0-Ti20fvNxINz8RAnZIvrIM-VDBppPnSYE2J8mG2IjVaQ8Mrul7_OyDZ6XrajXH3Mo5rk7mPnSf6kv-ws2mhlVbdfZhGyU83RM=&c=DkpGzM22ZJtlvVmgbwRGB-3onI8YEuxupyUyfpvL1pthCwwnry8VRQ==&ch=X553AEF-nAO5oe6dknYomZP5S9_xLJpOEcYkYtueGFrg1OmumztzcA==>) and National Disabilities Rights Network (NDRN<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CbIuAY4UwPiF2Xv11k_iq1PXPOBn8DWlDLJvhN-1W0-Ti20fvNxINzIEkU7r1mSjVInr_UXV79YUpSEJWlpVn30SH5N1u013Um3xCB6Ak7G5pTWDocizElnNP1x3HaI7wJUDdZQSqC4=&c=DkpGzM22ZJtlvVmgbwRGB-3onI8YEuxupyUyfpvL1pthCwwnry8VRQ==&ch=X553AEF-nAO5oe6dknYomZP5S9_xLJpOEcYkYtueGFrg1OmumztzcA==>) to create a social media campaign that highlights the many ways in which people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities.

The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all areas of community life, as well as awareness to the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live. DD Awareness Month covers three main areas: education, employment and community living. Throughout the month of March we will use these themes to guide our weekly content.

Get Involved!
Submit your resources to be featured

We want to use this campaign to showcase the excellent work that is being done to celebrate and improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities. If you have resources or materials that you think should be included and shared with this campaign, please send them to us! We will feature the submissions on our resource guide and they will be shared to audiences all across the country. Examples of resources include, but are in no way limited to, videos, toolkits, news articles, photos, personal stories, promising practices, etc. Share what events your community is doing to celebrate DD Awareness Month and show us how you are making a difference during March! With your help, we can make the DD Awareness Month campaign a success!

A special element of this year's campaign is highlighting the artwork created by people with disabilities. With the artist's permission, we will highlight their art in the DD Awareness Month campaign imagery. An example of artwork can be seen in this email, with this art by Sasha Grant.

If you have resources that you would like to submit or would like your artwork to be featured*, please send to Jessica Misilo at xxxxxx@nacdd.org<mailto:xxxxxx@nacdd.org>

Social media images for DD Awareness Month 2019 will be released in the upcoming weeks.

Remember to use the hashtag #ddawareness19
