Greetings from Nevada! I wanted to share one of our latest projects promoting the reasons why accessible information is important. The concept seems so obvious and we’ve have had some great forward movement
in our State information accessibility remediation efforts, but we still have a long way to go. Through many discussions I found a lot of the resistance didn’t stem from a lack of knowledge on “how” to create accessible content but rather a lack of “why”
it’s even relevant. There is no formalized system within our state to train employees on accessible content. There are resources but nothing that can be tracked. We hope to eventually include this education in the list of mandated training for all new state
employees. We created this video as a companion to our accessibility training efforts for State personnel but we feel the overall message translates well.
If all goes well at our Council meeting tomorrow, we will also have an official accessibility position statement.
