Beth,

I agree with Heidi that these are excellent!  Thank you for sharing.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the San Diego meeting so I will share something similar we do in Louisiana.  Once our Council establishes its legislative agenda, we develop a one page fact sheet on each issue in very simple language that our grassroots advocacy network uses to educate legislators.  The ones from our last legislative session are all linked below.

Enhance Rate for People with Complex Needs

Beth, you all do such stellar work!  We are going to use these as foundation for one pagers regarding our most recent disability assessments on education, employment, housing and transportation as a start. Thank you as always for sharing

Hi all,

I know we are planning to talk at our meeting in San Diego about effective messaging and helping policymakers and others understand the unique and vital role councils play in our state. Our council wanted to use that approach with our state’s biennial budget platform, so we focused on: 1. Keeping as many visuals as possible to explain words; 2. Keeping them short; 3. Using issue areas everyone understands (employment, transportation); 4. Limiting our “asks” in each topical area. Below is our biennial budget platform by topic. The feedback from our council members and from the general public and our partners has been very positive. They are easy to share on social media: the direct care worker sheet has gotten more than 10,000 views.  Just wanted to throw some examples out before we start the discussion face-to-face in October.

Best to you all and looking forward to seeing many of you,
Beth

Hello all,

Thank you for your feedback on BPDD’s 2019-2021 state budget and policy platform.

The final 2019-2021 platform is below.:

Using these documents:
Board members are encouraged to use the platform in their local work and when making connections in their community. Here are some ideas on how you can help spread the word on these issues and BPDD’s platform:

  • Share with your local disability network
  • Share on your social media pages
  • Share with your state Senator, state Representative, U.S. Congressperson and U.S. Senators
  • Use these sheets when talking with candidates

BPDD will be using this document with the Governor’s office, state legislators, state agencies, the Congressional delegation, and others to talk about these issues BPDD has identified has priorities for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) and their families.
