Ryley, thanks for all this great information.  I enjoyed seeing the group present on this at the APSE conference last June.  Very inspired to get something similar going in Idaho.

Subject: Re: DD Councils Seeking information on Demonstration/Pilot Projects

Hello Kimberly,

We worked with the Oregon Self Advocacy Coalition (OSAC) to develop and implement a peer support project with funding from the Oregon Department of Human Services to move people out of sheltered workshops into community employment.

This project was initially created based on OSAC's concerns that many people were confused about changes to services and they were unsure what steps to take to pursue a job in the community. We hired a contractor to help us develop a curriculum and then OSAC's paid peer mentors worked in three regions across the state to move people out of sheltered workshops.

I have attached a few of the resources that we have used. We will be presenting at the NACDD Annual Conference about the tools we used, what we learned (as well as our evaluation data) and how others can implement a similar project in their state.

Sorry for the long email but we thought it might be helpful. You may contact OSAC's Executive Director Gabrielle Guedon for more information: xxxxxx@askosac.org

Best,

Ryley

Hello All!

We are currently seeking information on how other Councils have participated in a demonstration or pilot project in one (or all) of the following areas:

1.       Sheltered workshop phase out

2.       Remote Monitoring

3.       Self-Directed housing initiatives

I know that these are large questions and perhaps best done with a phone conversation.  If you have experience with any of these above, feel free to contact me or my colleague Mariel (copied) and we will set up a time to talk.

Thanks!
