Subject: DD Councils Colorado's new E.D.

It is with great pleasure that I send this announcement about our new E.D..  We are so happy to have a strong and clear advocate as the director, Joelle Brouner.  Joelle can be reached at xxxxxx@state.co.us and will start in mid-April.  Her experience is extensive and shows strong independent advocacy skills in both policy, as well as inclusion and best practices.

Joelle Brouner comes to the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council with deep appreciation and respect for her peers with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families. Over a lifetime of absorbing the day-to-day realities of people with intellectual/developmental disabilities, examining systems and learning issues, Joelle has participated in the ongoing struggle to realize civil/human rights, equal opportunity and power. She has focused on increasing well-being and economic advancement within disability communities in Colorado and Washington State. Joelle worked in the field of Vocational Rehabilitation for 13 years in executive leadership roles. Before that she organized in disability communities and supported survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence with intellectual/ developmental disabilities to increase safety and independence. Joelle has been actively involved in a wide range of advocacy activities to support independent living and systems accountability. Joelle Brouner earned a Bachelor of Arts from Seattle University and a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Public Policy from the Evergreen State College.

Many thanks to all of you and your great work.  I am here until May 1, then will join the support group of former E.D.s as they struggle through having too much free time!

Marcia
