In Kentucky we do not  have a faith based collaboration at this time. There is a possibility of reaching out to Catholic Charities for outreach in the Hispanic population as Catholic Charities is instrumental in immigrant settlement and services here.

Hi Sheryl,

Guam DD Council is working on collaborative activities that include faith-based organizations to meet our SP requirement of our targeted disparity group, the Chuukese community churches to increase outreach and awareness to their members about employment opportunities and other resources available to I/DD and their families.

Thank You

Marie

Hi Sheryl,

The Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a faith based organization that recruits and trains students from the Federated States of Micronesia.  The Child Evangelism provides and encourages birthday celebrations for Jesus with children and youths in the district of Mangilao.  Mangilao has two high schools, the University of Guam, Public Health and Social Services, an agency of the Government of Guam.  GDDC has touched bases with these organizations in the past.  I will introduce this information to the next Executive Committee meeting this week.

I can request them to make a presentation of their programs at the next General Membership meeting in March.

In cases of emergency the Governor of Guam has the sole responsibility of declaring a state of emergency.  When this occurs the public schools are open for shelters.  The Office of Civil Defense and the Office of the Governor coordinate with the Office of Military Affairs and keeps the public informed at all times.

GDDC had prepared an emergency tool kit in the past five year state plan.

Hi Sheryl,

The CNMI Council on DD does not have a faith-based initiative in our current 5 year state plan nor previous 5 year state plan.

Best regards,

Pam Sablan

Hi Beth, a number of years ago we developed a booklet and educational materials on voting through funding to our Dept. of Elections.  It looks like the pamphlet is no longer posted on the web but the information is there. It’s fairly basic though and specific to Virginia. There is a section on accessible voting and then within that voting for individuals with special needs.  It’s only about the voting process. There used to also be videos on YouTube but they don’t seem to be there.  HOWEVER, our P&A developed a voting video that can be found at this link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEnyhpH5rtw

Hi all,

Do you have good materials on voting that we in WI could adapt or use? Transportation ideas, educational materials, etc?

Thanks!

FW: Update about NIDILRR's FY 2018 Field Initiated Projects Grants by Robin Troutman (31 Jan 2018 10:03 EST)

January 31, 2018

Important Note from NIDILRR about the Field Initiated Projects (FIP) Grants in FY 2018

The National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) has finished posting the grant opportunities that have been made available, or will be making available in fiscal year 2018. This year NIDILRR is publishing nearly 50% more funding opportunity announcements (34 in total) than in 2017. Each of these opportunities requires NIDILRR staff to plan and administer one or more expert peer review panels to systematically evaluate the large number of applications that received.

Given this disproportional peer review oversight responsibility in 2018, NIDILRR has made the decision not to publish a Field Initiated Projects (FIP) funding opportunity for FY 2018. Instead, we plan to fund in rank order the next 14 highest-scoring applications from the 2017 FIP competition. Each of these applications received scores that exceeded 90 in NIDILRR's 2017 FIP grant review. These high-scoring research and development grants will generate a diversity of new knowledge and products that can be used to improve the community living and participation, employment, or health and function outcomes of people with disabilities.

Thank you for your continued interest in NIDILRR's programs.

***

Within ACL, NIDILRR works to generate new knowledge and promote its effective use to improve the abilities of individuals with disabilities to perform activities of their choice in the community; and to expand society's capacity to provide full opportunities and accommodations for people with disabilities. NIDILRR conducts its work through grants that support research and development.
