Grant Opportunities Announced for NIDILRR Field Initiated Projects: Minority-Serving Institutions

The purpose of Field Initiated Projects is to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology to maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities.

Two new grant opportunities from NIDILRR have been announced under the Field Initiated Projects program for minority-serving institutions. These grants are intended to improve the capacity of minority entities to conduct high quality disability and rehabilitation research by limiting eligibility to minority entities and Indian tribes. A minority entity is defined as a historically black college or university, Hispanic-serving institution, American Indian tribal college or university, or another institution of higher education whose minority student enrollment is at least 50 percent.

See a description and links to more information on the two grant opportunities below:

Field Initiated Projects Program: Minority-Serving Institutions (Research)
In carrying out research under this grant, a grantee must identify one or more hypotheses or research questions and perform an intensive, systematic study toward producing new scientific knowledge or better understanding of the subject.

Field Initiated Projects Program: Minority-Serving Institutions (Development)
In carrying out a development activity under this grant, a grantee must use knowledge and understanding gained from research to create materials, devices, systems, methods, measures, techniques, tools, prototypes, processes, or intervention protocols, that are beneficial to individuals with disabilities.

Please visit the links above for more details about the grants and application process. Both grant opportunities close on January 22, 2018.

Within ACL, the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) works to generate new knowledge and promote its effective use to improve the abilities of individuals with disabilities to perform activities of their choice in the community; and to expand society's capacity to provide full opportunities and accommodations for people with disabilities. NIDILRR conducts its work through grants that support research.
