Subject: DD Councils Thank you from Florida~

Dear Colleagues!

Thanks to all of you for your concerns and well wishes for us and all Floridians.  As for the DD Council members and our staff, we fared very well.  Our offices just opened today, so we are working on catching up with all of our partners.  Because Hurricane Irma challenged preparation for statewide impact it will take a while to see what the successes and challenges were for persons with DD and their families.

Thank you again for your kind words and well wishes.   Planning, prayers, and perseverance is what we learn from all those impacted by “mother nature” in 2017.  May it end with Irma and may we all have a peaceful first quarter for 2018.

Be well, safe, and stay in touch.

Kind regards,

Subject: DD Councils RE: NACDD Hires New Director of Public Policy

We have heard that our colleagues and friends are safe and sound. Much more damage in USVI than PR and lots of clean up obviously going on. We do not yet have more details about individuals with DD whose lives have been impacted but we know from our disability colleagues at FEMA that things went much better in this storm than in years past. Much credit goes to people like Marcie Roth who since Hurricane Katrina has dedicated her career and life to changing how things play out for people with disabilities in emergency situations. AIDD is collecting more info and stats and as information because available we will share what we can.

Thanks for asking Eric and thanks to many of you whom I know have been reaching out to Myrainne, Val, Yvonne, Beth and others and keeping them feeling connected.

Best,

Donna
