Announcing: The Texas Leadership Institute on Developmental Disabilities

May 7th - 12th, 2017

The National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities is now accepting applications for their Texas Leadership Institute on Developmental Disabilities to be held in Houston area the week of May 7-12, 2017. This Leadership Institute is made possible with funding from the May and Stanley Smith Charitable Trust and sponsored by Jewish Family Service Houston. Please send this email to any leaders in the field you know out west!

The Institute will bring together leaders in the intellectual/developmental disabilities field from Texas to create momentum toward increased positive outcomes for individuals and their families in Texas. This week-long, intensive leadership development program is designed for current leaders and emerging leaders in Texas. Participants may work in areas of management or program leadership in organizations that provide, advocate for, or fund supports for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families in Texas.

The focus of the Leadership Institute is on assessing and strengthening leadership skills, setting organizational direction, and understanding the future of the intellectual/developmental disabilities field. Institute participants come away with demonstrated leadership ability and a firm grasp of the skills and values critical for quality, individualized supports.

Participants will learn the skills needed to:

  • Succeed in leadership challenges unique to the developmental disabilities field today;
  • Manage and sustain person-centered, values-based transformational change;
  • Build and sustain positive organizational culture at all levels;
  • Challenge the status quo through risk-taking; and,
  • Set and achieve ambitious goals for yourself and your organization.

"Whether you are a new leader or a seasoned leader, you will walk away with a whole toolbox of skills you can bring back to your organization. This was an amazing experience". Rick Driscoll, Community Living Director, REACH, Inc., Alaska, Alaska 2015 Leadership Institute

A highlight of the course for past participants has been the relationships that are built over the week-long experience. Participants will leave with a network of colleagues and enduring relationships with some of the most influential leaders in the field.

"The Leadership Institute was amazing. I came away with a rich understanding of how to support not only people in services but my organization. I feel more confident in my personal leadership style. I gained a new network of support through the other participants. Life changing". Jen DeFranco, HR Generalist, The Resource Exchange, Colorado, Colorado 2016 Leadership Institute
