Hi Ann,

I have several preparedness apps on my phone, but the two best apps for putting your own plan in place (simple checklists…) are:

FEMA: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fema/id474807486?mt=8

The FEMA app is your one-stop-shop with tools and tips to keep you safe before, during, and after disasters. Stay updated with weather-related alerts from the U.S. National Weather Service. Upload and share your disaster photos to help out emergency managers. Save a custom list of the items in your family’s emergency kit, as well as the places you will meet in case of an emergency. Get tips on what to do before, during, and after over 20 types of disasters. And locate open shelters and where to talk to FEMA in person at Disaster Recovery Centers.

Know Your Plan: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/know-your-plan/id1060849781?mt=8

Use Know Your Plan to be prepared when disaster strikes! Hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, tornadoes, severe cold, evacuations-this app will help you plan ahead to better protect yourself, your family, your home, and even your pets. Get started by using the preloaded checklists to learn about important mitigation and preparation steps, or create your own lists from scratch. You can set due dates, chart your progress, and include notes with your tasks, and share your checklists with family and friends. Get organized now so you can be ready for what may come.

I know this is more than you asked for, but other apps that may be of interest (I won’t list everything I have, like USGS, hazardous materials, flood watch and a number of others). J Other emergency apps I have that you may find useful at some point are:

NOAA Weather Radar: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/noaa-weather-radar-hd-radar/id749133753?mt=8

This will send out alerts.

You may want to look to see if your state’s Transportation Department has an app. I have a MODOT Travelers app and they update the map of roads in the state very quickly. You can see if all of the roads are covered or open and where there may be roads that have been washed away by floods, and even where there is construction.

Red cross apps: http://www.redcross.org/get-help/prepare-for-emergencies/mobile-apps

There are a number of apps (I have almost all of these apps). Many of the apps will alert you when that particular emergency has or is getting ready to occur. The Red Cross apps are:

·         Shelter – If Red Cross shelters are set up, this app will give the location and shelter hours.

·         Emergency – This has a list of emergencies that one would prepare for (i.e. winter storms, drought, earthquakes, etc.). You can monitor emergencies anywhere in the country. I have family members loaded in this app and I get alerts whenever they have emergency warnings (i.e., I have been getting a ton of alerts about flooding in San Diego where my nephew and his family live).

·         Tornado – alerts

·         Hurricane

·         Earthquake

·         Wildfire

·         Flood

·         First Aid – This has quick explanations of what some first aid emergencies might be (i.e. bleeding, burns, choking, diabetic emergency, distress, heart attack…) and what you should do (i.e, call 911, give aspirin if responsive…).

·         Pet First Aid.

Hope this is helpful.
