Greetings everyone:

We have been working on collecting data as well. Attached you will find an Excel sheet that highlights some of our findings. Many of the providers we have talked with shared that they let Personal Care Assistants (PCA) ride for the reduced fare, if not free. In many cases, PWD are not required to produce documentation of their disability where as in other cases, they are required to fill out quite a substantial questionnaire as well as provide a physician’s signature. Every provider we have talked with offers a reduced fare for PWD (1/2 fare almost exclusively). Senior age for reduced fare varies greatly from 55 to 65.

I hope this helps! Have a wonderful day.

Sincerely,

Brett Williams

Yvonne, I can’t answer each of your questions below because the answers vary depending on the city, town, region but generally a fixed route fare ranges from $1,25 – 2.00.  Nobody rides free on either fixed route or para-transit; someone is paying.  It may be an employer or it may be Medicaid.   Again, there may be discounts to the rider but they are being subsidized by local, state or federal sources of funds.  Some fixed route services offer discounts for elders and people with disabilities during non-peak hours.

Dear EDs:

Do you have information on the travel costs of individuals with I/DD that use the following public transits systems?

Fixed route/cost for each way:

Para-transit cost for each way:

Is there a discount for senior citizens?

Are there discounts for individuals with disabilities?

Does anyone ride free on the fixed route service?

Does anyone ride free on the para-transit service?

Thanks,
