In Oklahoma we HAVE paid honoraria and/or expenses, depending on the budget.  We do generally feel, however, that those in our state give their time willingly for the greater good….  Any speaker out of state we certainly do provide honoraria and travel as requested.

So, it’s not prohibited, and especially for self-advocates and parents we have provided honoraria, but we do like to ask for the freebie….

I know – super helpful!

Subject: DD Councils Question on Honorarium for Conference Presenters

Dear Executive Directors:

The VIDDC is planning a parent advocacy conference. We informed the organization for the keynote speaker that we were not providing an honorarium. The organization stated that when they present at other DD Council's conference, they receive an honorarium. I am requesting any feedback this matter. Thank you for your assistance.
