Travis, we use our DSA's policy, attached, which is set at $40/hour.  This coming year is the first year we have included this in our proposed Council budget, which will be voted on at our annual meeting in August. Our state statute previously prohibited compensation of Council members but was updated when this policy was established in our DSA.

We are choosing to propose to compensate for full council committee attendance, but not committees or prep time based on feedback from other Councils and our available budget. We received guidance from ITACC that Council compensation is an administrative expense that can not be charged to the program, even if Council members are working on state plan activities.  Hope this helps!

Hello,

Michigan is in the process of updating its council member compensation policy. I’m gathering information from states with an active compensation policy for their council members.

If your state has a compensation policy/model in place, can you please answer a few questions:

  • What is your current compensation rate?
  • When was the last time your compensation policy was updated?
  • What model, if any, did you base your compensation rate on? (examples: state minimum wage, ALICE rate, state/federal contractor rate, state law, etc.)

Any other information/context you can provide would be appreciated!

Best regards,
