Colorado no longer has a non-integrated work setting option.  The work group that looked at alternatives as the NIWS was done away with, re- instituted the pre-vocational option.  The Council had been pleased the pre-vocational option was eliminated years ago and not happy that it was put back in the waiver as an option currently.  The only safeguard we managed to get in is that all participants in pre-vocational would have a review annually and if they were still in pre-vocational after five years, a recommendation would exist to have the individual participate in the community connections option. We are still working on getting the Discovery process to be the standard process during the one to five year time period.  My opinion is that the pre-vocational is a way to continue allowing for sheltered workshop type of settings to remain in place.

Hi,

Responding to the CMS Home and Community Based Services Rule on integrated settings, how does your state propose to deal with sheltered workshops or pre-vocational services in your state’s transition plan?

Thanks,
