Hello folks, our next Self Advocate Discussion Series is
Happening Today! November is typically the deadline to vote in America, and people with disabilities, individually and collectively, offer an important and needed voice in our nation. Ensuring voting independence, accuracy, and access continue to be key
issues. Access to the ballot is critical for democracy, yet people with disabilities often face substantial obstacles to exercising their right to vote. The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) required fully accessible voting machines for people with disabilities
by January 1, 2006. This promise has not been fulfilled. Too many polling places and voting technologies and practices throughout the country remain inaccessible and continue to disenfranchise voters.
With that background, we are going to talk about the accessibility issues that get in the way of voting. We will have a guest joining us for this Discussion Series, Aaron Wilson from Enhanced Voting, who is working to build a more accessible
voting system. If you have ever been unable to vote due to accessibility or even just voted and thought “I wish this was easier”, we want to hear from you!
The Discussion Series is today, 11/16, at 4pm-5pm EST. That’s 3pm Central Time, 2pm Mountain Time, 1pm Pacific Time, 12pm Alaska Time, 11am Hawaii Time
