The EEOC recommends that employers use an “interactive process” to determine reasonable accommodation when needed for an employee with a disability. This simply means that employers
and employees with disabilities who request accommodations work together to come up with effective workplace adjustments. Here are six steps to help employers navigate the accommodation process in the workplace.
Maggie Sims is the Project Manager for the Rocky Mountain ADA Center, specializing in outreach and providing information, technical guidance and training on the Americans with Disabilities
Act for the center’s six-state region. Maggie joined the RMADAC in 1992 as an ADA Information Specialist, with a deep interest in reducing communication barriers for those with hearing, speech, and visual losses. An expert on the ADA and effective communication
processes and skilled in sign language, Maggie also provides guidance on technical assistance calls focused on helping the RMADAC’s region, which includes Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.
