Agenda: Reestablish and reorganize the Self Advocacy Committee

•            Look at membership of the Committee

• Core team volunteers requested
• Renee Hall Voting Member request
• Riana Hardin Voting Member request
• Dana Thompson Voting Member request
• Brett Williams: Core team request, but not voting member

•            Set up new meeting schedule

• Two hour meeting established on the regular schedule.

•            Talk about what it means to be involved and a member of the Committee

• Work in progress.

New Business:

•            Talk about words like “empower”, “support” and other words used in organization documents. Ask others in connection how they feel about person first, or identity first language.

• Consensus: There is no consensus. People fall on both sides of the person first / identity first language divide. Even a brief poll of those present revealed feelings about language used that ranged across the spectrum.
• Suggestion of checking ASAN and other disability orgs to see the language they use.
