CCD Seeking Individuals to Work on Plain Language Project
In September 2021, after helpful work and suggestions of CCD’s Communications Access workgroup, the CCD Board adopted a policy recognizing the importance
of plain language and identifying specific steps CCD will take to increase the use of effective plain language within CCD. “Plain language” is writing with words and sentences that are clear and can be understood by most people. Using plain language best informs
all people about how government works and issues that affect their lives and therefore is important for successful advocacy and public policy.
CCD has hired a consultant—Reid Caplan of Accessible Academia—to translate some CCD materials into plain language and host a training on plain language
for CCD members. As the consultant translates CCD materials—such as the CCD mission statement or Task Force mission statements—into plain language, we are looking for 1-3 people with intellectual disabilities who can review the draft plain language versions
and provide feedback to the consultant as content is finalized. In terms of workload, it usually takes about 2 hours to review each material. The consultant can work with people through virtual interviews or email. CCD will compensate people for this work
at $25/hour. If you are interested or know someone who may be, please email CCD Chair Laura Weidner at
xxxxxx@efa.org.
A Message from VoteRiders asking about transportation assistance for voters in the November election
[ Good morning,
I hope this finds you well. I am a volunteer with VoteRiders and am updating our internal information on transportation assistance for voters in the November election. Our volunteers, when assisting voters to obtain voter ID, will use this information to direct
voters to transportation resources.
As a partner of VoteRiders, I would like to invite your organization to share any relevant information about transportation assistance that you may plan to offer voters this election season, whether directly or through local partnerships.
I would be happy to receive the information in any manner that is most convenient for you. It would be particularly helpful to receive any websites or phone numbers which we could share with voters directly.
Thank you,
Nicholas Collins
Reminder: NO MEETING 10/5. See you again 10/12.
And that’s it for this week. Best of luck staying dry, all of you who need it.
