Jennifer - South Carolina does not have this. We do cover travel costs for Council business for Council Members, but not directly for anyone else. We do support some stipends through our grants as appropriate
– primarily for self-advocacy groups including Partners in Policymaking. This has helped us make the connection to our State Plan and outcomes are related to these programs. As someone else mentioned, when we didn’t connect this in the past, it didn’t really
fit well or give us the outcomes we were looking for.
We do fund conferences within the state primarily who meet at State Plan Goal/Objective and give us outcomes. We require an evaluation and a follow-up evaluation on how participants used the information they
received at the conference. This was also a good change for us. Let me know if you have questions. Valarie

Subject: DD Councils Consumer Stipend Funds
Hi all. We are currently looking at how to best move forward with our Consumer Stipend Project. I was hoping you could help with the following information:
1.)
Does your Council fund a Consumer Stipend Program. If not, please explain why.
2.)
If your Council does fund a Consumer Stipend Program, please describe the process you use – what things are covered, maximum stipend amount, any limitations, etc. (you can also send to me as an attachment).
Thanks in advance!
