At this time we don’t have a specific “program” for this…just handle requests on a case-by-case basis.  We may support a certain number of people with DD/family members/PCAs to attend or up to a certain lump amount, but that agency handles the payments or reimbursements. We typically cover registration and hotel room costs (most meetings provide meals so essentially they pay just their own mileage). If other items are needed for a specific person, it is discussed in advance for approval. Requests for consideration of stipend support are made in writing by the agency. After the event, the agency gives us a follow-up summary for our records. (We do it this way because of how our DSA operates. Some states may have an easy process for reimbursements to individuals. We do not.)

If you are speaking of people with disabilities on the Council, that is a different story. We cover some costs upfront (if plane tickets or registration charges are involved) through our DSA’s travel agency or purchasing coordinator. Other costs they pay and we reimburse (hotel, meals, mileage, etc.)

Subject: DD Councils Consumer Stipend Funds

Hi all.  We are currently looking at how to best move forward with our Consumer Stipend Project.  I was hoping you could help with the following information:

1.)    Does your Council fund a Consumer Stipend Program.  If not, please explain why.

2.)    If your Council does fund a Consumer Stipend Program, please describe the process you use – what things are covered, maximum stipend amount, any limitations, etc.  (you can also send to me as an attachment).

Thanks in advance!
