Hi Jennifer:
Our Council has a policy regarding stipends and here’s how it works for our Council:
1.
Council members are eligible for stipends if they are employed and have to take time off of work to attend a Council event.
2.
The stipend is paid at the Arizona minimum wage rate.
3.
Stipends are provided to cover the cost of personal care attendant fees, based on the hourly rate charged by the attendant.
4.
Members traveling from remote locations that requires and overnight stay to attend scheduled meetings will be reimbursed for approved lodging, meals and mileage charges. Reimbursement for these items
are made in compliance with the state travel policy which set parameters for mileage, allowable hotel costs and meals.
With all of this said, we rarely pay stipends, since our policy requires that Council members formally request reimbursement. We also circumvent the stipend issue by paying for contracted transportation services
for our self-advocates to attend meetings since it ensures that we’ll have members in attendance.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Subject: DD Councils Consumer Stipend Funds
Hi all. We are currently looking at how to best move forward with our Consumer Stipend Project. I was hoping you could help with the following information:
1.)
Does your Council fund a Consumer Stipend Program. If not, please explain why.
2.)
If your Council does fund a Consumer Stipend Program, please describe the process you use – what things are covered, maximum stipend amount, any limitations, etc. (you can also send to me as an attachment).
Thanks in advance!
