DD Council Network,
Please see the resources below/attached from the NACDD All Call on September 30, 2019.
1) COVID-19 is causing state budget crises: No state is exempt from the increased state spending to address the public health crisis and a declining revenue as a result of
massive loss of employment, business and other taxes (among other things). With Congress stalled on any efforts to provide additional funds to states, states are making tough decisions now about which services they will have to cut or eliminate. DD Councils
are urged to participate in this webinar which will provide a framework for DD Councils to advocate for programs, including optional Medicaid services like HCBS, which could be affected by the state budget crises.

ProInspire Toolkit: Crises as a Catalyst: A Call for Race Equity & Inclusive Leadership
Introduction - Times of crisis challenge social sector leaders in extraordinary ways. The unprecedented circumstances brought forth by COVID-19 and recent acts of police brutality call on each of us to individually reflect, collectively
support, and intentionally adapt our work to meet the urgent needs of this moment. We see this as a catalyst to evolve our leadership practices toward a long term goal of a world free of systemic oppression and rooted in race equity, where all people thrive.
The current crises that we are facing demand that we evolve who we are as leaders and ignite an inner transformation that can sustain the work needed to support Black, Indigenous, and communities of color in the social sector as a whole.

4) Webcast: Disability Rights Are Civil Rights - A Conversation on Inclusive Democracy
The NIDILRR-funded
Community Living Policy Center will host a webcast,
Disability Rights Are Civil Rights: A Conversation on Inclusive Democracy,
October 8th, 12-1:15 pm ET. Presenters from the Center for American Progress and the Ford Foundation will discuss how their organizations are working to encourage and support the civic participation
and leadership of people with disabilities. Registration is free and required.
5) Technology Use for Social Connectedness
The NIDILRR-funded
Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center for Wireless Inclusive Technologies (Wireless RERC) published a brief,
Technology Use for Social Connectedness: Exploring the Experiences of People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Family Members, and Professionals. The research brief explores how wireless technology, tools, and software applications help
people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) socially connect and how people with IDD and those that support them perceive the usefulness of such tools within this population. Through focus groups, the researchers identified six themes: hardware
and software, accessibility features, reasons for connecting socially, barriers to and supports for connectivity, concerns or fears about connectivity, and outcomes from social connectedness.

7) Call for Stories and Experiences: I’m reaching out because I’m part of a cross-Federal government team working to capture stories and experiences of people that have navigated public services in the disability space. You can learn

We would greatly appreciate if you could share this survey (https://go.usa.gov/xGvsM ) with those you think could help us better capture a diversity of experiences and perspectives. The deadline for
the survey submission is Wednesday, October 14th. My hope is that we have a strong voice and representation of the ID/DD population and their families in this survey across our nation.
