Good for y’all – this is a critical (and poorly studied) area of need!!! The following agencies typically ‘field’ complaints of abuse/neglect:
- District Attorney’s Office – Victim/Witness Advocates
- Area Agencies on Aging – Ombudsmen
- Domestic Violence/Sexual Abuse Hotlines/Shelters/Programs
- Departments of Social Services – Child Foster Care/Adult Guardianship, Community Care Licensing & Adult/Child Protective Services/Programs
- Meals on Wheels/Home Food Delivery Programs
- County Probate/Conservator’s Offices
- State Department of Justice – Victim/Witness Program
- State Correctional Facilities
- Local Law Enforcement Agencies
- Local Hospitals
- Multi-Disciplinary Interview Centers (providing social/forensic interviews of alleged vulnerable victims)
- Parent Representative/Support Groups
- In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
- Local Mental Health Providers
There are other ways to procure this information, but it typically requires local ‘boots-on-the-ground’ efforts and extensive training to ‘recognize’ signs of abuse, report suspicions of abuse, investigate allegations of abuse, and extend prosecution efforts within local/regional jurisdictions.
Good luck with your valuable work!
😊

Subject: DD Councils Kansas is working on reducing Abuse Neglect and Exploitation
The Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities will soon release an RFP to study and identify ways to reduce Abuse Neglect and Exploitation among people with IDD in Kansas. We are looking for organizations that we can share the RFP with that might be potential bidders. Do any of you have suggestions of who we can send this too?
