As organizations strive to improve responsiveness to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, they are often challenged with how to measure and establish
benchmarks for cultural and linguistic competence (CLC). The measurement and assessment of CLC at the organizational and system levels are an emerging science. When compared to other fields, very few CLC measures, instruments, and tools have been developed
specifically for developmental and other disabilities. This Leadership and Reflection Forum is designed for leaders, in both formal and informal roles, to increase their knowledge of how to establish baselines, create benchmarks, and use frameworks to assess
progress in their efforts to advance and sustain CLC.
As a result of this forum, participants will be able to:
(1) Describe relevant constructs, tools, and frameworks to assess CLC in their organizations and within IDD networks.
(2) Apply the examples shared by the panelists to inform their work in CLC and cultural diversity within their respective organizations.
(3) Identify useful frameworks and practices to lead the work of measuring and documenting progress in advancing CLC in their organizations and IDD networks.
