KCDD is working on a project with our Kansas Department of Education to improve the transition from school to adulthood. One of the problems we are concerned with is the data collected by the schools is showing that all is going well. Our experience with visiting with families etc. is that it isn’t going very well. We believe part of the problem is the way we are collecting data at the school level. Are any states where your schools are doing a good job of capturing good data that is actionable to improve the system. An example is the question “did you have the opportunity to participate in your individual program plan?” The school data showed 95% positive a survey of families that a coalition did showed less than 40% of the people were involved in their IEP. Does anyone have any ideas or experience in this area?
