Learning and Reflection Forum Series

March 14, 2019 2:00 - 3:30 pm EST

How we are leading: Voices from Leadership Academy Alumni

The Georgetown University Leadership Academy conducted and celebrated its fifth and last cohort in fall 2018. This forum is designed to benefit from the wisdom of Academy alumni about their experiences leading cultural and linguistic competence within their respective settings, communities, states, and territories. This panel will highlight how each individual used “lessons learned” from the Academy to lead – by inspiring a shared vision, challenging the status quo, and effecting change that advances and sustains cultural and linguistic competence. This forum will feature the experiences of people within the network intellectual, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Objectives

Participants will:

1.     Define leadership and its role in advancing cultural and linguistic competence in programs, organizations, and networks concerned with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

2.     Reflect on the influence of one’s culture (including multiple cultural identities) on views of and approaches to leadership.

3.     Engage in dialogue about shared leadership challenges, experiences, and successes.

4.     Reflect on lessons learned as documented in Academy evaluation outcomes.
