Experts in the field will share critical emerging trends in aging and trauma, the future for trauma-informed care for older adults, and how to best serve and support older adults with a history of trauma and their family caregivers.

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  2.  Identify new strategies for becoming person-centered and trauma-informed based on emerging trends
  3.  Plan steps they can take to advance the implementation of PCTI care in their own agencies

Meet the Presenters:

Dr. Joan Cook is an Associate Professor in the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. She has over 100 publications in the areas of traumatic stress, geriatric mental health and implementation science fields. Dr. Cook has worked clinically with a range of trauma survivors, including combat veterans and former prisoners of war, men and women who have been physically and sexually assaulted in childhood and adulthood, and survivors of the 2001 World Trade Center bombing. She has served as the principal investigator on four grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, as well as grants from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. She was a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) Guideline Development Panel for PTSD and the 2016 President of APA's Division of Trauma Psychology.

Dr. Josef Ruzek retired as Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for PTSD Dissemination and Training Division in April 2018, after helping improve PTSD services in VA for over 26 years. Dr. Ruzek is an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Co-Director of the Center for m2 Health at Palo Alto University, and a Professor in the Department of Psychology at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. He has been a member of the VHA Undersecretary's Special Committee on PTSD and served as psychotherapy champion for the joint VA-DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of Traumatic Stress. Dr. Ruzek is a past member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. He specializes in early intervention to prevent the development of PTSD, dissemination of evidence-based treatments for PTSD, and development and evaluation of Internet- and smartphone-based interventions for trauma survivors.
