Subject: RE: (Extended deadline) WE NEED YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS! Georgetown NCCC Learning Forums

Michigan’s suggestions:

-Best practices in providing info. graphics for individuals with limited reading ability or English as a second language.

-A discussion on "White Privilege" and how it affects therapeutic relationships with constituents.

-Creating a cultural competency plan for small/non-profit/advocacy organizations

-Intersection of the disability movement and cultural competency

-Cultivating a culturally competent Council

-understanding the unique challenges of PWD in accessing healthcare / dental care, focusing on communication between the doctor and patient. This would include explaining procedures, diagnosis, and treatment in a way that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for the patient, family, and care givers.

Subject: (Extended deadline) WE NEED YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS! Georgetown NCCC Learning Forums
Importance: High

We need your input – so far, only 3 Councils have submitted recommendations for topics. Please use the link below and submit your ideas by COB on Monday 10/23.

Dear DD Councils

The NACDD/ITACC Diversity, Inclusion and Cultural and Linguistic Competence (DICLC) work group works in partnership with the Georgetown University National Center for Cultural Competence to provide guidance and resources.

I am excited to share the opportunity for all state and territorial DD Councils to offer recommendations for topics for the upcoming NCCC Learning Forums. Please see the request below from Georgetown University National Center for Cultural Competence and click on the link provided. Once the forums are planned, I will be in touch with additional information on how you can participate.

DD Councils Suggested Topics for Leadership Institute Learning and Reflection Forums
To expand the reach and impact of the Leadership Institute, and as another component of the curriculum, the NCCC will offer a 2017- 2018 series of web-based learning and reflection forums on cultural and linguistic competence (CLC) and diversity.

The Forum series will offer four forums annually that will be open to up to 300 participants from the entire I/DD network. Forums feature the content expertise of organizations and programs from within and outside of the I/DD network. The forums will focus on topics that present unique challenges encountered by those leading CLC and diversity efforts and proposed strategies and solutions. Each 90 minute forum will use phone lines and/or Voice Over Internet Protocol or VOIP (phone service over the Internet) and will be archived on the Institute's website.

To make recommendations for topics for the Learning Forums, please click on the link below and submit by October 23, 2017. (After entering your email, click "next" on the second page to advance to page 3 and type in your recommendations)
