Alaska added a bunch of money to reduce the waitlist in our state this year, but we also implemented another waiver about 5 years ago that provides basic services while people are on the waitlist for the IDD waiver, called ISW, or individual supports waiver, which has not had a waitlist so far. Essentially, you can apply for both and if found eligible then you can get the ISW which includes $18,500 in services while you are waiting for the larger IDD waiver, which averages around $90 K per year in supports. Our waitlist for that is just over $700.

Hello everyone!

The Kansas legislature is convening an interim committee on IDD service modernization. We have been asked which states have reduced waiting lists without cuts to current recipients. Would any of you who are currently working on reducing your waitlist be willing to talk to our legislative researchers? I would especially like to emphasize the importance of stakeholder input in the process.  Our goal is to build what people and their families need, not just what we can afford today but solutions that will carry into the future.  I would be happy to help facilitate a meeting if anyone is interested in sharing.

Thank you,
