        Updates to ITACChelp.org:

 

o   Resources from ITACC Webinar: ‘Planning for the PPR: Timelines, Strategies and Tips’

PowerPoint presentation and tools are now available!  This webinar discussed ways DD Councils can plan, organize and strategize in collecting data and executing timelines.  This webinar did not cover DD Suite or Performance Measures in detail; however another webinar later this fall (TBD) will cover that subject matter.

 

·         Financial Information Guide for DD Councils – 2014

This updated resource is intended to serve as a reference tool and guide for fiscal managers, executive directors and others responsible for the administration and financial management of federal allotments to State Councils on Developmental Disabilities.  Sections of the guide include:  Grant Information; Fiscal Responsibilities of the DD Council; Federal Financial Forms; Grant Match Requirements; and Special Resources (including a FOB FAQ!).  NACDD thanks Roger Webb for taking the lead on this resource.

 

·         Resource Correction: DD Council Facts and Considerations in Becoming a Non-Profit

This resource was previously released in Field Notes, however it have been revised to include the following change: “The DD Act indicates the Governor or the Legislature can designate the DSA.”

 

        DD Suite Updates:

 

o   PPR and SPA Templates… Coming Soon!

In the coming days DDSuite.org will have both the PPR and State Plan Amendment templates available.  Make sure to keep an eye on the NACDD ITACC list serve for the announcement of the availability of these templates.

        NDRN Bookkeeper/Administrative Support

National Disability Rights Network (NRDN) is a nonprofit membership organization for federally mandated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) Systems and Client Assistance Programs (CAP). Collectively, the P&A/CAP network is the largest provider of legally based advocacy services to people with disabilities in the United States. NDRN is seeking a Bookkeeper/Administrative Support. This position will be responsible for daily bookkeeping and administrative support to ensure that NDRN's financial reporting and administrative functions are maintained in an effective, timely manner.

 

        TASH is Seeking Interns!
As a leader in disability advocacy for nearly 40 years, the mission of TASH is to promote the full inclusion and participation of children and adults with significant disabilities in every aspect of their community, and to eliminate the social injustices that diminish human rights. TASH offers internships at its national headquarters in Washington, DC. The internship program is designed to provide undergraduate, graduate and post graduate students with an opportunity to gain experience and learn about TASH and to contribute to inclusive practices in every aspect of life for people with significant disabilities.

        Save the Date! The Workplace and People with Disabilities: Past, Present and Future Webcast

Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) will be hosting a webcast on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. EDT. This webcast will focus on employment and disability to coincide with National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Academic, policy and advocacy experts will share historical perspectives, discuss current initiatives and the state of employment for people with disabilities today, and examine issues that need to be addressed to support full workplace inclusion of people with disabilities in the future.         Making the New Medicaid HCBS Settings Regulation Work In Your State

The Autistic Self Advocacy Network, in partnership with NDRN, AUCD, NACDD and the Collaboration for the Promotion of Self-Determination, is hosting a webinar series on Tuesdays throughout October from 1-2:30pm ET on the new Home and Community Based Services settings regulations.

 

·         Proposal Extension for the 2015 Next Chapter Book Club Conference

The Next Chapter Book Club (NCBC) is an innovative reading program for people with developmental disabilities. Proposals for the NCBC Conference will be accepted through October 24, 2014.  The conference itself is being held April 17 &18, 2015 in Chicago, IL.  Presenters are encouraged to think beyond the Next Chapter Book Club and explore a variety of topics.

 

Resources:

 

        Gaps in Timely Access to Care Among Workers by Disability Status

This study’s findings, published by Mathematica, suggest that although the Affordable Care Act will improve access to health insurance overall, it remains to be seen whether it will substantially reduce the likelihood that workers with disabilities will experience barriers to health care access relative to their peers without disabilities.

 

        DD Council NDEAM Resources available online

NACDD’s Strategic Communications Committee has created 2 new resources for the 2014 National Disability Employment Awareness Month.  These resources include a social media calendar for the month of October and a banner which can be used on Facebook or other publications. Check out these resources on the right side of NACDD’s homepage under ‘Your Disability News Center’.
