Hello, Angela,

Alaska is using all of these strategies, but without the in-person component. We are replacing our past practice of having local community forums throughout the state with having focused outreach to regions and subgroups of stakeholders through weekly webinars. The webinar content is the same, with a break in the middle of the webinar so that people have time to take a survey. The survey includes the opportunity to ascribe a level of need to areas of emphasis and to rank areas in a couple different ways. There is also an opportunity to write-in comments. The demographic data from the survey informs outreach efforts going forward. We have different survey links for each webinar, so we have feedback on methods of outreach. We also have a single survey that is available on our website, which we add as an option to anyone who can’t attend a webinar. That link gets promoted widely, including social media and through our partners and committees, as well as through gov.delivery email lists. We will be offering the survey in Spanish on the website very soon. We will be making direct contact by phone with people from underrepresented groups and regions as identified through survey responses, and using lists from past event registrations.

Thank you,

Anne

Subject: REMINDER - STRATEGIES NEEDED: Public Input Strategies Resource for 2022-2026 Five Year State Plan Development

Good morning

Just a friendly reminder to please read below and send your strategies/ideas on obtaining public input for five year state plan development by May 1st.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, have you had to alter your strategies, develop new ways to capture information, consider the digital divide and other cultural and linguistic competence considerations? All ideas are welcome. ITACC knows this is a busy time for us all so we appreciate your responses.

DD Council Network members,

During the last state plan cycle, the ITACC staff collected public input strategies used by DD Councils for state plan development. See a summary of some of those strategies below.

·         Focus groups/town halls/community conversations to address barriers to services and supports;

·         Structured interviews (phone or in person);

·         Providing surveys in multiple formats and languages;

·         Webinars with targeted audiences (Providers, families, advocates, or other professionals) to obtain specific information;

·         Inclusion on meetings with taskforces, stakeholders, and committees to share surveys or gather information; and

·         Use platform such as Survey Monkey to solicit public responses on DD Council priority areas.

If you have updates to these strategies or NEW strategies to share, please send them directly to me by May 1st at xxxxxx@nacdd.org or call me at 410-236-9920.

ITACC staff will provide additional strategies in combination with DD Council submittals to update the Public Input Strategies resource document for 2022-2026.

Thank you in advance for sharing your ideas and strategies.

Stay healthy and safe,

Angela
