Alison,
I really like this idea. The work that comes from the consensus of a diverse group or a diverse pairing is thoughtful, innovative and inclusive. If this could happen it’d be transformative to the work generated from every  DD Council.

Hi Angela,

One question I’ve been chewing on is, how could we implement a co-executive director model in DD Councils? I’d love to get NCCC’s thoughts on this. I think co-executive directorship is something a lot of social justice organizations are exploring and I think it is a way to infuse diversity, equity, and inclusion into some of our internal practices, but Sheryl reminded me that it might violate the DD Act, so how do we go about navigating that?

This article about co-leadership models makes some really great points: https://medium.com/swlh/5-reasons-why-your-organization-should-be-thinking-about-co-leadership-7eb2e26883e2

I particularly like this quote that was pulled from a report referenced in the article, “We often reward people whose leadership style is aligned with the individual model of the dominant culture, but not those who engage in more collective forms of leadership. This serves to render invisible the leadership of many women and people of different races/ethnicities.”

Thanks!

Alison
